TV makes an impact

After yet another application, this time for a television trainee... It is all media! I love television and would love to get into script writing and editing particularly. In the application form, however, there was a question about what television programme you have seen in the past six months has had a great impact on you and why. So, it inspired me to share.

There was a television series on recently that I really enjoyed. Of course, not having television is a real draw back when you enjoy tv as much as I do. But, the BBC iplayer has been my saving grace. Unfortunately I do not find the itv catch up to work very well, as many of the clips do not load properly - which is a big bummer if you are trying to catch up on missed corrie episodes (What?! I can't watch Coronation Street? Craig Charles is awesome!), and it only plays the first half. Everyone knows that the end of each episode of a soap is the most crucial part! The Channel 4 catch up system also does not work on Macs, so I am limited solely to the BBC.

The series was hosted by Dawn Porter on BBC Three, with four episodes: “Dawn… Gets Naked”, “Dawn… Goes Lesbian”, “Dawn… Gets Her Man”, and “Dawn… Gets a Baby”. I really enjoyed it as a series, "Dawn... Gets Her Man" was probably my least favourite, but still highly enjoyable. What I loved about the series was that it was informative, empowering, and most importantly, it was fun. Dawn Porter was great as a presenter who was a real woman, not too thin, attractive, not too confident, etc. Women could relate to her, and I did. This is what journalism should be about, discovery, learning, experience, while having a good time and not taking it all too seriously.

Oh, the only thing is, it may have failed with the positive message on having a baby. I came out of that 100% sure that I never ever want to have a baby, where I was only 98% sure before. But then again, perhaps I truly am simply an anomaly among women.

What other television shows, or films, have had an impact on you and why?
